Bikes recovered!
Hi,
I'd just like to say thanks for providing a service for stolen dirt bikes. I had never been burgled before but this was a first. All my riding gear and motorbikes KTM400 and SV650 were stolen. I promptly listed the bike as being stolen, and interestingly I learnt that other bikes in my area had also been stolen. 3 weeks later, my bike was recovered. From my conversations with Police, a team of youths have been following people with dirt bikes and finding out where they are garaged.. they would return to steal them at a later date. The person who had my bike also had in his possession another stolen KTM 530, he has been subsequently charged with receiving stolen goods. I was told he had a picture of my bike from the stolen dirt bike register on his phone!! this will be used to prove he knew the bikes to be stolen when he received them. I don't believe he was only the receiver.. however this is how the law works. I am glad to have my bike back, I am now extremely paranoid about security but thanks to the register for helping me get the bike back.
Thanks
Ed
What's the problem?
It's bad enough getting your bike stolen but is that the only problem?
Well no. One would expect that if you had a costly possession taken without your permission then the authority whose responsibility it is to capture the thieves would actually do something wouldn't you? Well based on the data contained within the Stolen Dirt Bike Register it would appear that that is not the case.
If you read through the listings you will find many references to the lack of interest that the Police LAC's show in making any effort to pursue knowledge (call them "clues") about the theft - even when presented with CCTV footage. No evidence is the common claim but is that true? Surely amongst all these thefts there is ONE clue that is good enough to prosecute a thief. One, in hundreds, thousands? We cannot believe that the criminals are THAT good! But here at SDB we know of ZERO instances of police taking ANY specific action for ANY of the listings. Not one. So here then is the real problem.
If a thief knows that no action will be taken by the police then there is NO deterent to them making further thefts. This is the reality.
So why is this the state of play? Here we have a situation where goods to the value of millions of dollars per year are removed from lawful ownership but nothing is done about it. Why? Please explain.
If you are in a member of our constabulary and reading this and you can provide anecdotal evidence that this information is wrong, please contact us and let us know. We would be happy to be proven wrong.
But we're not holding our breath.
